Translate your Wix website and make it multilingual

No code tool to translate and display your Wix site in multiple languages

Weglot makes your Wix site multilingual in minutes, without any code. It combines both the translation and the displaying part needed to fully translate a Wix website.

Whilst Wix does have a multilingual feature, it’s only suitable for those that have the time and language skills to translate all of the content of their site manually. Weglot differs by supplying a fast first layer of automatic translation which you can then manually edit and approve through your Weglot dashboard.

In just 4 steps you can have a multilingual Wix site up and running, without having to manually duplicate all your pages yourself and with a front-end language button for your site visitors to switch between.

The best part of Weglot? Any Wix app you’ve added to your site will also be fully translated – including Wix Bookings and your checkout (if you’re selling products).

Before digging into how you can actually accomplish all this, you can see an example of what a Weglot-translated Wix website looks like with our demo, on display here.

You can see the language-switch button at the bottom right, which allows you to change between English and French in this particular example.

How to make a Wix multilingual website

IMPORTANT: If you’ve yet to purchase your official domain name and are currently using a temporary Wix domain e.g. mywebsite.wixsite.com – you should follow this integration instead.

1) Create your account on Weglot

2) Add your new languages

Enter your website URL, the original language of your Wix site + the new languages you want to translate and display your site into.

Click ‘Next’ and the below will be generated (your DNS records). This will be different depending on the languages you choose, the example below shows French. You will need this in the next step!

3) Setup language-specific subdomains

Here you’ll create and connect your language specific subdomains e.g. fr.mysite.com (example for French) which is where your translated content will appear.

This requires you to copy and paste the line of text (DNS) from step 2. Go to your Wix dashboard > ‘Settings’ > ‘Domains’.

Weglot Wix DNS setup

Click on the “Advanced” tab, as seen below.

Then the ‘Edit DNS’ blue button to the right. A message will appear, just click ‘Got It’. You’ll then see the view below. Click ‘+ Add another’ in the ‘CNAME (Aliases)’ section.

Your domain name will then automatically appear in the left hand column. Add the language indicator in front of it, with a full stop after it e.g. fr.mysite.com. Then in the right hand column add ‘websites.weglot.com’ (as seen in the red highlighted section below).

Click on the blue button “Save DNS” at the top right.

Now go back to your Weglot account, click “Check DNS” and you should see a green tick icon; this means it worked! Click on “Next”.

Bought your domain outside of Wix?
The process will differ slightly. You will need to go to your account of your domain name provider and access the DNS section to add the entries. If you are not sure how to do this or where to find your DNS records, we can help you. Just email us at support@weglot.com.

4) Add your language switcher

This is a switcher that will be placed on the front-end of your site so your website visitors can switch between the language of their choice.

  • In your Wix dashboard go into your ‘Settings’ > ‘Tracking & Analytics’ (one of the last options in the left hand menu)
  • Click on ‘+ New Tool’ and ‘Custom’
  • Paste the JS code provided on your Weglot dashboard ‘Project settings’. In the option ‘add Code to Pages’ select ‘Load code on each new page’.  Note: in the GIF below, your actual API key (found in your Weglot account settings) should replace “YOUR_API_KEY”:

Your Wix site is now multilingual!

View your website to see your site in new languages!

Note: if this doesn’t happen instantly just give it a few minutes to make sure your subdomains are properly set up, then you can try changing the language.
