TL;DR: Weglot now works with any CMS and web technology.

We are happy to announce that Weglot is now compatible with all CMS or web technologies. Thanks to a new subdomain-based integration, Weglot can be connected to any website and transform it into a multilingual website. It is available on any CMS (Squarespace, Wix, Weebly, …) and on any web technology (PHP, Ruby, …) and it is optimized for multilingual SEO.

Make any website multilingual

Since Weglot began, our goal has been clear: Create the simplest and most powerful software to make any website multilingual. In fact, our first integration was a short JavaScript snippet that you can install on any website.

Unfortunately, this integration is not SEO friendly as translations are not server side, making it difficult for search engines to detect your translated pages. We’ve thus decided to focus first on custom integrations starting with a WordPress plugin and a Shopify app.

But having a universal version was always an important goal for us and we still had a lot of demand to make Weglot compatible with other popular CMS like Squarespace, Wix or Webflow and with no-CMS technologies. So we are really happy to announce our new simple, SEO-optimized and universal integration of Weglot.

How does it work?

Technically speaking, this new integration uses subdomains to connect to your website. You just need to add a couple of entries on your Domain Name System (DNS) records, like fr.mywebsite.com for example, and Weglot will do the rest.

You can already discover how to integrate Weglot via subdomains with our generic setup guide. We will be adding new setup guides for each CMS in the following weeks.

Control all your Weglot configuration from your dashboard

On a side note, we took the opportunity of this new universal version to revamp some of the Weglot core engine to make it easier to configure all your Weglot options from your dashboard. You can now change your language switcher design, add a new language, decide whether you want to display automatic translations or not, etc … directly inside your Project Settings (if you’re using WordPress or Shopify you can still do that in the plugin or the App).

Whether your website is made with a CMS (Squarespace, Webflow, Wix, etc.) or with a framework of PHP, Ruby, JavaScript or anything else in between, the new Weglot subdomain integration makes translating your website fast and easy.

We look forward to hearing your feedback. If you have any question comment or request, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]
