We started the year with a €45m investment, grew the team by 15, developed the product, onboarded big customers, and leveled up on branding, all the while staying true to our mission of making it effortless for any business to have a website in multiple languages.

So here we are at the start of January with a fresh year ahead of us, ready to make new waves, but first, let’s see what we got up to last year.

And for those of you who are in the TL;DR camp, take a look at our year in under 2 minutes. 👇

We celebrated 6 years of Weglot

Back in February, we raised a glass to 6 years of Weglot and having only ever had one Seed round in 2017, March was an even bigger milestone for us with a €45m growth investment from Partech Partners.

The investment allowed us to put even more into the product, build the Weglot team and put our name out further with industry events, new partnerships, and more coherent branding.

This growth investment is ultimately helping us fuel our mission of helping anyone to translate their website effortlessly.

And with that, by the end of last year, we had grown from a €10m ARR company to €16m with big plans to continue that upward growth in 2023.

But, that’s not all we were proud of in 2022.

We brought back our annual Black Friday and Cyber Monday initiative that saw us raise and donate €52,000 to a number of charities making a global impact, including Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) and Fondation de France, as well as charities selected personally by Weglot teammates.

We also joined 50inTech which helps accelerate the careers of women in tech, and we’re pleased to say that as of today a ⅓ of the Weglot team is made up of women.

And, something else that we became mindful of and that will continue into 2023 is being conscious of our carbon footprint. Every business has a duty to look more closely at the issue and that’s why we started with a first estimation of our carbon footprint, more to be shared this year. The next step of course is to look at how we can reduce it.

Building Weglot for our users

Weglot has been fueled by customer feedback and opinions since its inception. And we always look to our users for valuable input in every aspect of what we’re building.

Whether that be reaching out to users testing our beta subdirectory integration, reading the regular thoughts added to our product roadmap, or getting real-time feedback on newly released features.

There’s one thing we know we can count on is that Weglot users are as invested in making Weglot a leading product as we are.

This year alone we added dozens of requested features. From variables, a new visual way of editing your language switcher, mass deletion of inactive translations, deeper insights on your international website visitors, to workflow dashboard improvements, and better onboarding thanks to the Weglot Academy…And that’s just to name a few.

We weren’t kidding when we said we invested more into the product than ever before.

As always, our changelog is where you’ll find a breakdown of all our new features, updates, and fixes in more detail.

And, a bigger and better product equaled more users. And more users meant we sent 110,171 support emails in 2022, kudos to our support team!

Thanks to the outstanding support we again received thousands of 5-star reviews. That also meant we scored big on G2’s quarterly reports, with several awards in several categories across the year, including some we’re particularly proud of:

In keeping with last year’s results, 79% of our clients were helped in under two hours 💥.

Back on the product front, we also reached some big milestones with not 1 but 3 in-app integrations with leading CMSs, including Squarespace (we’re their recommended solution 🙏), Bubble, and Square Online.

And rounding things off nicely, we worked hard on proving how serious we are at protecting customer data and that was met with a big achievement of becoming SOC 2 Type 2 compliant.

What else happened in 2022

Let’s also not forget the dozens of other projects we worked on throughout the year that built and grew the Weglot brand.

We had a subtle brand glow up

We tend to include this on every Weglot year in review article but as we keep growing so too does our branding. And 2022 was no exception.

We made changes here and there and in particular, we showcased our product more prominently on our website.

The changes were seen across our ebooks, social media, blog, and our events, which leads us nicely on to…

We became the global sponsor of all WordPress events

WordPress was where we started and what led us on this journey to becoming the leading website translation solution. So becoming the global sponsor of all WordPress WordCamps and meetups was something we were particularly proud to get involved in.

We also personally attended dozens of WordCamps and local meetups around the world – big hello again and thank you to those that stopped by to say hi!

We brought the magic of Weglot to San Francisco

At the end of the year, we went to the Webflow Conf where we put together a particularly special experience for both online (thanks to our collab with Refokus) and in-person attendees.

Weglot Like Magic brought to life just how instantaneous website translation can be and across the 2 days, we met with hundreds of Webflow enthusiasts.

And, talking about events in general we attended, sponsored, or hosted 54 different global and regional events.

Growing together

What do all good year-in-review articles end with…the people behind the product of course. And when we say 2022 was Weglot’s biggest year yet, that was also equaled with new team members, bigger plans for the team, and not 1 but 2 off-site trips.

2022 started with a group of 26 and we finished the year with 41 new Weglot team members. Our biggest year of recruitment and the year we really got to understand what it means to be part of the Weglot team.

We worked on our overall branding, including our company values, our mission, and where we’re headed in the next 20 years. While that formed a solid groundwork for the business, this also translated into who we are as a team.

Founders Augustin and Rémy spent the last 6 years building a team that would take Weglot to the next level and with that, they learned exactly what it takes to be part of it.

At our annual seminar, those values were set in stone “kindness, pragmatism, ambition, and curiosity” are what makes a Weglot teammate in case you were wondering 😉.

We also added several new perks that take care of the team as a whole. Including, menstrual leave, extended paid maternity/paternity leave, and hybrid working including 3 weeks a year from anywhere in the world.

You can read more about it over on LinkedIn and if you’re looking for a new crew to join, then we’re always open to receiving profiles

And so to end things, we want to say a big thank you for being part of our year. For helping us build the Weglot brand, for pushing the product forward with your suggestions, and for continuing to trust Weglot as your website translation solution.

We’ve got big product plans for 2023 that will help you continue to manage and translate your multilingual website with ease and you’ll be the first to know about these developments.

2023 we’re ready for you and we hope you’ll be there with us 💙.
